In line with General Secretary Xi Jinping's remarks in an instruction on ending food waste and promoting thrift, which was released on August 11, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) launched an initiative calling on women and families to stop wasting food and promote thrifty habits.
The ACWF called on women and families to resist wasting food and become practitioners of cherishing and saving food. Women and families are also called on to keep frugal homemaking and be advocators of a low-carbon and healthy lifestyle, and pass on fine virtues and promote the trend of thrifty living in the new era.
The initiative noted that women's federations at all levels should push their group members, executive committees' members and women volunteers — especially those in the catering and tourism industries — to educate their communities on the issue of food waste and the benefits of cultivating thrifty habits.
The women's federations were also urged to help foster a social environment where waste is shameful and thriftiness is commended, and contribute to a decisive victory in the battle against poverty and the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
